Dr Anna Flo Arcas
Chartered Counselling Psychologist
BSc, MA, DPsych, CPsychol
About
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist based in London, with experience in a wide variety of settings, including the NHS, third sector, and private organisations.
My areas of expertise are trauma, mood, and affective and relational difficulties, and I have worked in specialist services in these fields for over 10 years.
Following on from a BSc in Psychology, I undertook an MA in Women and Child Abuse, before completing a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.
A side from my private practice, I work in a specialist service in the NHS, and I am a lecturer at City, University of London, where I contribute to the doctoral training of other psychologists.
I have a special interest in critical and feminist approaches to mental health; in working with different forms of expression, including the body, objects, music, or art; and in the use and meaning of language in therapy and supervision.
I provide training and consultancy to different teams; and I am involved in diverse research, pilot, and service development projects.
Psychological Therapy
I work from an integrative perspective, and adapt my work to the needs of each individual. I draw from humanistic, psychodynamic, schema, cognitive behavioural, gestalt, phenomenological, feminist, and dialogical approaches.
The relationship I establish with my clients is extremely important, as well as the shared understanding of the development and factors that influence their present difficulties. I bring my clinical and up-to date knowledge to provide evidence based and effective plans, which are based on this mutual understanding.
Throughout my experience I have witnessed human strength, and the difficulties and struggles clients undergo while dealing with pain and life-changing experiences. My work is driven by empathic curiosity, and the fascination for the human capacity to overcome and adapt to new situations.
Sometimes it is difficult to express unique experiences only through words, and thus I welcome different ways of expression such as art, music, through the body, or diverse objects.
I offer therapy to individuals and couples, and welcome clients who speak multiple languages.

FAQs
What will happen when I contact you?
Once you contact me, we will have a 15 minute phone conversation free of charge, to briefly discuss if a psychological consultation would be helpful and if I am a therapist you would like to work with.
What will happen when we first meet for a consultation?
Our first meeting will be a consultation, which will allow me to better understand what has brought you to therapy and what would you like to get from it. This usually takes between one and two sessions.
At the end, I will share my thoughts with you and explain what I think could be helpful to you at this specific time; and you will have space to ask any questions you may have.
We will then, decide if we want to continue to work together, and if this is the case make a plan.
If I believe I am not the best person to support you, I may recommend an alternative service for you.
How often and how long are your sessions?
Sessions are most effective when they are undertaken on a weekly basis. However I have flexibility, and we can further discuss this option when we meet, depending on your needs.
My sessions last 50 minutes.
What are your fees?
My fees are £140 per individual session and £160 per couples sessions.
I have a sliding scale, and offer reduced fee sessions to refugees, students and trainees.
Reports are charged separately, reflecting allocated time.
Do you work with insurance companies?
Yes, I do work with various insurance companies.
I ask all my clients to pay each session as they attend, and I provide an invoice that will allow you to claim this directly with your insurer.
